I just got gifted the game over Humble Bundle, and activated it on my Steam account.
Following a successful installation of the game, I tried to run it. After about 30 seconds of a blank white window, music kicks in. Sounds good so far, but after another ten seconds the game crashes.
Googling things, I've so far tried several things to try fixing the issue.
- Reinstalled .net, vcredist, OpenAL.
Tried to run again, same result.
- Replaced the OpenAL dll with the one from the Troubleshooting FAQ on the forum.
Same result: a crash.
(Note: A few people suggested making changes to config.xml, which didn't actually exist.)
So. I tried creating a config.xml based on what's written here:
www.hammerwatch.com/config.xmlAs a precaution, I set it as low as I could - turning things like Ambient Occlusion and Glow to false. I also made sure the game is running in 800x600 with fullscreen set to false.
Still crashing. A quick look at the game.txt and I notice this:
"Initializing game
Resource error: : Could not find file: C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Hammerwatch/assets/levels/menu_1.xml.bin"
Not sure if that's the cause of my problem. My whole game.txt is here:
