Can you change the port used for multiplayer?
« on: April 30, 2014, 09:51:27 PM »
My roommates and I have this game. However, we don't always play in the same game, so multiple port forwards are needed.. Can we change the port used (other then 9555)?

Forward another external IP port to the correct port on the internal IP. Problem solved?

Surely you can forward any port, so in this case, 9556. You forward 9556, then connect with the ip 12.34.56.78:9556    while your other roomates connect with 12.34.56.78:9555.

Anyone out there correct me if i am wrong, but if i recall, this should work.

So you're saying you want to use the same port across different games, so you only need one forward? That's trivial, since adding another forwarding rule isn't a lot of work. But in any case, is it not also possible to change the ports of the other games to 9995? :)

On the note of changing the client/server port, that's either something that will be added as development progresses (you'd have to wait for an answer from the devs, though) or something they're avoiding in order to keep match-making simple (though with a server browser, you'd just need to store the port via the heartbeat in the master server, then send it in the packet to the client browsing)
