Hexen: Beyond Hammerwatch
A series of Hammerwatch maps based on the game Hexen. Major update adding new additional hubs, Shadow Wood and the Heresiarch's Seminary. Now includes 7-10 hours of play time, 4 bosses, 3 hidden maps and much more.

What To Expect
  • Medium - Hard difficult depending on ability.
  • Many custom assets including music, enemies, tilesets.
  • 15-20 hours play through depending on abilitiy.
  • A range of medium challenging puzzles.
  • Many difficult traps to avoid.
  • Hexen themed stages with elements similar to the original game.
  • Unique bosses that go beyond shoot and spawn style.
What NOT To Expect
  • A stage by stage recreation of Hexen, it doesn't work that way when ported over.
  • A perfect game, there will be bugs.

Wow, this campaign was really good!

Me(paladin) and hipshot(wizard) played it in 2,5 hours and once we came through the easier area it was a real blast! The game has a real nice difficulty curve with just the right amount of difficulty when playing two player.

I have not played the original Hexen but hipshot has played it 15 years ago and he didn't remember all of the map either. nontheless, the port was great!

As we came closer to the end of the game destroying all levelprogression statues/walls/gears we were not sure if we had won the game because the main hub is called Seven portals but we couldn't locate the last exit portal(?) even though we all the progression items were destroyed.

Did we miss something? I assume there must be a end screen we didn't reach.

The only critic I have is that some textures feel very flat or walls that have missing corners, some characters have different pixel resolutions which could be improved upon so the all have a the same consistency.

ps: these skulls freaked hipshot out, great stuff


pps: We hope you will be able to add this map omtp steam workshop, so more people can enjoy this map!

WARNING SPOILERS

Can any one else confirm that you can't complete the game? It's actually difficult for me to test.

Are you sure you hit all switches? Did the you solve all sixths of the puzzle on seven portals? There are two in each Guardian. After which an passage on Seven Portals should open opposite to where to the starting portal is.

Ah, I know we did not finish the puzzle because one was in the steel maze which we ignored after losing loads of lives, I guess we have to get back there to finish the game :P

Really cool map, it looks very nice and it got long playtime.

Played it on medium with a friend and we had lot of fun. Espacially the steelmaze was great fun.

At the end a Boss is missing, it's a little big boring at the end (yeah i know we shouldn't expect).

So 4/5 stars

Hope there will be more maps like this!

Thanks for the feedback Chris, I really appreciate it. I see you guys are very thorough in your play throughs. Most of those were simple fixes and will be corrected in the next patch. I'll respond to a few of the ones that aren't so easy here:

For that that haven't played through spoilers are ahead.

- I think the score not working is out of my control, I have all the same code in menu/gui/end.xml except for replacing the castle with my own image.

- Regarding the panel bridge in Griffin Chapel I'm not sure what you mean by death area overlap, if you are on the bridge when it vanishes you are supposed to die, otherwise you would get stuck. Unless you somehow took damage while the bridge was still active.

- The spike shooter in Guardian of Ice can be avoided by triggering the ice spikes to the left and right to block the spikes while you run through.

- The doors appearing on the minimap is something that needs work but I'm not prioritizing, it mostly occurs in the early areas because I wasn't destroying them after they finished opening since they had to minimap icon in previous versions.

- The rune puzzle in the north-east corner of Guardian of Ice is working as intended, not sure what confused you.

- The lava in Guardian of Fire does very little damage and is working as intended.

- Is the Guardian of Ice bug regarding the checkpoint possibly from an earlier version? The checkpoint seems to be working fine when I tested it.

- I'm not sure what to do about the original powerups being dropped by breakables. They are base assets do if I wanted to remove I'd either have to change the base asset and just keep a backup (which is probably what I'll end up doing) or create new breakables that are part of the hexen mod which would mean replacing every single one.
