I feel like moddability is the way to go with this game
« on: August 19, 2013, 11:07:12 AM »
This may be obvious, but I feel like the core game framework here is so robust and good that if the community had the ability to add to that this game could become huge.

I know there's a level editor which offers quite a lot beyond just standard map making, but I'm thinking modding on a larger scale. The ability to add game systems of our own like gaining experience for killing monsters, loot, skill trees etc. etc.

But to achieve this we would have to have modding capabilities similar to Minecraft or Skyrim, which may be hard to implement in praxis.

I'm saying this because I want to like this game, but I feel like I'm just playing it to explore the levels and get to the end. The basic gameplay is too repetetive and unrewarding for me. I know it's based on older games with similar gameplay, but by looking at the comments and discussions it seems many people feel the same way as me, but they all have different ideas on how to "fix" the game. Trying to meet our needs would be a neverending process and I don't see it as very profitable for the developers, but if we were able to make the game we want to play ourselves I think this could turn into a proper classic with a massive community surrounding it.

I knew all this before I bought the game from playing the beta so this is not just me whining. It's just my ideas on how this could become the game I play for the next 10 years. :)

the more modability the higher the potential for creative exploration of the custom map designers. also more possibilites to attract people, based on genre and modification.

but i think myran knows that already.... i think he has done a good job with this framework, so i believe, with a bit of patience, all those things will be added someday!

Things I'd like to see for modability:

Customizable heroes/classes
Spells/abilities
Effects triggered by both abilities and scripts.

What kinds of things is everyone looking for?

id like to see pvp support, its a big ask as there is a lot of programming work involved, but if mobs and players could be set into various team instead of just player and enemy teams we could create freindly mobs or LoL styled lane pusher maps.

it would also allow you to create escort missions in your campaigns or a friendly fire crutch.

PvP would be amazing. I can imagine the kinds of dungeons created with PvP in mind.
